Are You the Son of God?

During the three years of Jesus's ministry, Judea was in a period of political tranquility. However, because of the message He preached, the entire region was in spiritual upheaval.

The religious leaders of the day scoffed at the idea this could be the true Messiah. There was constant criticism from the Pharisees (ordinary men who knew the Hebrew scriptures) and the Sadducees (those who controlled the office of high priest and held privileged positions through their heredity and political connections).

Yet the disciples and those touched by His ministry knew He truly was the Son of God---and their lives would be forever transformed.

The Old Testament was given by the Holy Spirit to the prophets of old and was completed approximately four hundred fifty years before Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

This is especially exciting for Bible scholars as they understand how more than three hundred prophecies, many in graphic detail, were meticulously predicted throughout the Old Testament, then astonishingly fulfilled one by one through the birth, life, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, and ascension of only one person in all of history, Jesus Christ.

Scholars cite the chances of one person fulfilling a mere eight of the messianic prophecies as one in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000. Josh McDowell writes of these amazing odds in his book A Ready Defense: For one person to fulfill 48 of these prophecies, the number becomes staggering – 1 chance in 10 to the 157th power (1 with 157 zeros after it). Add to that the 250 other prophecies and it becomes impossible for any other person except Jesus to ever fit that particular sequence of time and events.

Overflow of a God Filled Heart

Andrew Murray, a truly great man of prayer, once said that before he prayed, he often said, "Lord, melt my cold heart. Break my hard heart and prepare it for Your touch."

Oh that we would be willing to approach the Father in that way. And when we come with such a heart, the Holy Spirit will meet us as our Helper and prayer Partner, enabling us to approach the throne of grace and touch the heart of God. For He promises as we draw nigh to Him, He will draw nigh to us: "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." (James 4:8).

You will know when He is present as your heart begins to break and the coldness begins to melt. Suddenly your empty words become life giving.
