Today’s Key Scripture

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

— Hebrews 7:25

The eternal truths we studied during recent Good Morning, Holy Spirit, Devotionals about the Model Prayer cannot be fully experienced in our life unless we follow the example of our Lord Jesus in prayer, for without following His example, we will not know the true power of prayer.

The book of Hebrews tells us clearly that when the Lord Jesus walked the earth, He offered up prayers and supplications with crying and tears to His Father, who was able to save Him from death:

Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. (Hebrews 5:7-9)

The Lord understood the power of prayer and intimacy with God, and He recognized the importance of calling upon His loving Father.

If effective prayer and cherished fellowship were so vital in the life of Jesus when He walked on this earth, and if prayer and intercession is His eternal ministry as our High Priest (Hebrews 7:25), then as His people we can do no less than strive to follow His example in every area of life.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I boldly choose to live for You and You alone. Permeate my spirit, soul, and body so I can be transformed into Your image. Jesus, You are my perfect example of how I should live my life. Allow me the strength and wisdom to follow in Your footsteps. Grant me the power and understanding to be pure, peaceful, caring, thoughtful, obedient, compassionate, and genuine like You, Lord. I pray this in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, amen.
